Thieves broke into a house near Bejai New Road through the rear door on Saturday night, stealing a speaker and Rs 5000 in cash. The house, occupied by elderly couple Sheena Devadiga (85) and Kasturi (78), was vacant at the time of the theft.
Sheena Devadiga, suffering from dengue fever, had gone with his wife to their son’s house in Ashokanagar on June 28. Kasturi returned briefly on June 30 to retrieve their golden ornaments before going back to Ashokanagar. When she returned on Sunday morning to clean the house, she discovered the break-in.
The Urwa police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. Police officials noted that many residents in the twin districts secure their front doors but often neglect the back doors, making them easy targets for thieves.
The police also mentioned that the theft at the Bejai New Road house does not match the pattern of the Chaddi Gang, a notorious group known for similar crimes. However, the investigation is being conducted from all angles to ensure a thorough examination of the case.
