Mangaluru: The 50th lecture of the Viveka Vani Series, organised by the Swami Vivekananda Study Centre, Mangalore University, was held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar, where Swami Tattwamayanandaji, Head of the Vedanta Society of Northern California, delivered an inspiring address on the theme “Vivekananda for the 21st Century Engineer.”

Engineering with values at the core

Speaking to the students, Swami Tattwamayanandaji emphasised that in today’s rapidly advancing technological world, intellect alone is not enough. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said that engineers must “infuse the spirit of humanity and morality into the machines they create,” reminding the audience that technology must serve humanity, never replace it.

He described Swami Vivekananda’s teachings as timeless and deeply relevant to modern engineering education.

“Becoming an engineer is not just a profession — it is a sacred responsibility toward nation-building,”
he noted, urging students to uphold strength, faith, and service in everything they pursue.

Call for engineers guided by values

Swamiji stressed that individuals behind machines must be guided by strong human values, cautioning that without moral progress, society risks inequality and instability. He encouraged young people to strive to become Karma Yogis, blending technology with ethics to help build the strong, service-minded India envisioned by Swami Vivekananda.
