Mangaluru: The Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at ISKCON’s Sri Krishna Balarama Mandir turned into a grand spiritual gathering, attracting more than 20,000 devotees on August 15 and 16. The festival, filled with devotion and cultural vibrancy, has strengthened ISKCON’s vision of making “Brand Mangalore Krishna-conscious”, said organization president Gunakara Rama Dasa.

Addressing reporters at the temple, he noted that the highlight of the event was a 30-foot-tall idol of Balakrishna, which captivated devotees and created a divine atmosphere. A dance-drama titled “Sri Krishna Vaibhavam” by the Alvan Institute troupe vividly portrayed the playful pastimes of Lord Krishna, receiving overwhelming appreciation. The midnight abhishekam and aarti, accompanied by devotional chants and Vedaghosha, drew thousands into a deep spiritual experience.

Food was also a major attraction. Live prasadam counters and stalls set up by popular Mangalore brands such as Ocean Pearl, Ideal Ice Cream, and Hangu Ice Cream delighted visitors, while free prasadam distribution served everyone who attended. Traditional Uyyale Seva and darshan of Lord Krishna gave devotees a sense of peace and fulfillment. Over 20 social media influencers collaborated with ISKCON to spread the devotional message.

Looking ahead, Karthika Deepotsava will be held from October 2 to November 5, while Govardhan Puja is scheduled for October 22 at Govardhangiri Hill in Benjanapada. Gunakara Rama Dasa also revealed that ISKCON will soon begin constructing a grand temple on 11 acres in Benjanapada.

ISKCON Vice President Sanandana Das expressed gratitude to Shanaka Vedavyas Kamath, Dr. M. Mohan Alva, MB Puranik, Sameer Puranik, MP Brijesh Chowta, Pramod Madhwaraj, Rajendra Kumar, bloggers, police, students, and well-wishers for their strong support in making the celebrations a success.
