Mangaluru: The Kavoor police have cracked a jewellery theft case within 24 hours and arrested an accused in connection with a burglary at a house in Ullasnagar. Police have also recovered the stolen gold and silver ornaments from the suspect.
According to a statement issued by the city police, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody following his arrest.
Burglary took place when residents were away
The theft occurred around 12 noon on March 7 at a residence in Ullasnagar under the jurisdiction of the Kavoor police station. At the time of the incident, the occupants of the house were reportedly away.
Taking advantage of their absence, the accused allegedly broke open the lock of the front door and entered the house.
Once inside, he is believed to have searched through the premises and stolen valuables kept in the house before fleeing from the spot.
Jewellery worth ₹4.8 lakh stolen
Following the incident, the house owners lodged a complaint with the Kavoor police station regarding the theft.
According to the complaint, gold jewellery weighing about 39 grams and silver ornaments weighing 182 grams had been stolen from the house.
The total value of the stolen items was estimated at around ₹4.8 lakh.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and began an investigation to trace the accused and recover the stolen property.
Accused traced within 24 hours
Police officials said that a special team was formed to investigate the case soon after the complaint was registered.
During the investigation, officers analysed available leads and gathered information regarding the suspected involvement of the accused.
Acting on the clues collected during the probe, the police team was able to trace and arrest the suspect within 24 hours of the case being reported.
Stolen ornaments recovered
During the arrest, police recovered the stolen gold and silver ornaments from the accused.
Officials stated that the prompt recovery of the valuables and the swift arrest of the accused were made possible due to the coordinated efforts of the station personnel involved in the investigation.
The accused was later produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Investigation continues
Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused was involved in any other theft cases in the area.
Authorities have also advised residents to remain vigilant and ensure proper security measures in their homes to prevent such incidents.
The case highlights the swift action taken by the police in tracking down the suspect and recovering the stolen valuables within a short span of time.
