Mangaluru: The Karavali Astronomy Utsav, a two-day event bringing together professional and amateur astronomers, institutions, and clubs from Karnataka’s coastal region, will be held at Canara High School, Urwa, Mangaluru, on January 11 and 12, 2025. The event aims to inspire an interest in astronomy and citizen science, especially among young minds.

  • Meteorite Exhibition: Featuring over two dozen meteorite fragments from around the world, presented by Dr. Bharat Adur, Director of the Akash Ganga Centre for Astronomy, Maharashtra.
  • Star-Gazing Sessions: Visitors can observe celestial wonders such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and the Andromeda galaxy using multiple large telescopes, including a 16-inch instrument.
  • Astrophotography Exhibition: Showcasing works by leading Indian astrophotographers, along with live demonstrations of astrophotography techniques.
  • Talks by Eminent Astrophysicists:
    • January 11: Dr. P N Bhat, co-investigator of NASA’s Fermi-GBM mission.
    • January 12: Dr. P Sreekumar, Director of the Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences and former Director of Astronomy at ISRO.
