Mangaluru: The makers of the Kannada film Karavali, inspired by the traditional buffalo race of Kambala in Tulunadu, have unveiled the film’s official trailer ahead of its theatrical release on July 24. Written and directed by Gurudatha Ganiga, the film brings the rich cultural heritage of coastal Karnataka to the big screen through a story centred on one of the region’s most celebrated traditions.

Presented by KVN Productions, Karavali has been produced under the Gurudatha Ganiga Films banner, with VK Films and Suram Movies joining as co-producers. The trailer offers audiences a glimpse into the film’s rustic setting, emotional narrative and action-packed sequences rooted in the spirit of Kambala, a centuries-old sporting tradition that continues to hold deep cultural significance in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Strong technical team behind the film

The trailer showcases a grand visual presentation backed by an extensive technical team. The music programming for the trailer has been handled by Sachin Basrur, who has also composed the film’s music and background score. Additional music production has been contributed by Chethan Handattu, Jagadish Venky, Pavan Basrur and Krishna Basrur.

Backing vocals feature Krishnamurthy Basrur, Krishna Basrur, Nagaprakash Kota, Jagadish Venky, Ramakrishna Basrur and Poornanandha Basrur, while Sachin Basrur has rendered the backing solo vocals.

The energetic taase percussion heard in the trailer was performed by Pradeep Malpe and his team and recorded at Eyedea Creatives in Udupi. Live percussion sessions were completed at RBM Studio in Basrur. The trailer’s final mix and mastering have been carried out by S P Narayanan, adding depth to its cinematic sound.

Ensemble cast brings Karavali to life

The film features a strong ensemble cast led by Prajwal Devaraj and Raj B Shetty. They are joined by Sampada, Mitra, Ramesh Indira, Sushmita Bhat, Sridhar K S, Govinde Gowda and Niranjan in significant roles.

The production has been spearheaded by Gurudatha Ganiga, while Vinod Kumar, Shithil G Poojary, Sathish Kumar Raji, Prasanna Kumar, Manish Dinakar, Shyam Sundar and Jayaram Devasumudra have come on board as co-producers.

The story has been written by Chandrashekar Bandiyappa, while the screenplay has been developed by Tejovrusha, Ravi Sriram, Kowshik Kooduraste and Gurudatha Ganiga. Dialogues have been penned by Tejovrusha.

Experienced crew powers production

The visual storytelling is supported by cinematographer Abhimanyu Sadanandan, while editing has been handled by Pratheek Shetty. Guna has served as the art director, with choreography by Rudra. Action sequences have been designed by Vikram Mor, Arjun Raj and Raghavendra.

The film’s digital intermediate and colour grading have been completed by Srik Varier of Color Planet Studios, Kochi, ensuring a visually rich presentation. Ravi Sriram has worked as co-director, with Tejovrusha serving as associate director.

The direction department also includes Gagan Ravichandra, Sachin Dwaja, Kowshik Kuduraste, Berkhana Bharath, Sachin Lakshman, Kabir Raj Verman and Shravan, reflecting the collaborative effort behind the production.

Subtitles have been prepared by Madhu Daitota, while Somashekhar has served as production manager and Puttappa Veerasetty as assistant manager. Prajwal Shetty has worked as the line producer.

Post-production and promotions completed

The film’s visual effects have been executed by Spector Post, while sound design has been created by Pradeep G. Dolby mixing has been completed by S P Narayan at VELS D Studio.

The makeup department has been handled by Kiran Nayak and Prakash, with costumes designed by Ganesh. Smitha Prakash has worked as the costume designer and stylist, while Charan Lokanath has served as the online editor.

Publicity posters have been designed by Sugar Candy. Public relations responsibilities have been managed by Pavithra Gowda and Shruthi Krishna of Pink Tickets, while the film’s marketing campaign is being handled jointly by Pink Tickets and Creative Guyz. The film’s soundtrack is being released under the Aanand Audio Video label.

A tribute to Tulunadu’s sporting heritage

With its release scheduled for July 24, Karavali aims to present the cultural identity of Tulunadu through the backdrop of Kambala, combining drama, action and emotion with authentic regional traditions.
