Mangaluru: Several parts of coastal Karnataka received rainfall on Thursday, September 17, while the region witnessed a mix of sunny and cloudy weather. More rainfall is expected along the coast from September 20, with a yellow alert issued for September 20 and 21, according to the latest weather forecast reported by Daijiworld.

The weather department has forecast partly cloudy conditions across the coastal districts over the coming days, with isolated light rain possible on Friday morning. Moderate rainfall is expected to increase after September 20 as a low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal region.

Rainfall expected to increase after September 20

According to the forecast, coastal Karnataka is likely to experience partly cloudy conditions over the next two to three days. While rainfall may remain isolated initially, moderate rain is expected in coastal districts after September 20.

The change in weather is linked to atmospheric systems developing over the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area extending from the southern Bay of Bengal towards Tamil Nadu and South Karnataka is currently persisting and has been contributing to rainfall in parts of South Karnataka.

Another low-pressure area is expected to form around September 20 or 21 near Myanmar and move towards Odisha. The extent of rainfall over coastal Karnataka will also depend on the movement of western clouds, according to the report.

Heavy rain reported in parts of Dakshina Kannada

Several areas of Dakshina Kannada received rainfall on Thursday. Sullia taluk recorded good rainfall in several locations, while Subrahmanya experienced heavy rain in the evening.

Rainfall was also reported in Aranthodu, Nekrakaje, Mallar, Kalmadka, Markanja Mapalathota and Harihara Pallathadka.

The rainfall pattern, however, was not uniform across the district, with some areas experiencing sunny or cloudy weather instead.

The variation is expected to continue over the next few days before rainfall activity potentially becomes more widespread after September 20.

Udupi records 3 cm rainfall

Several parts of Udupi district also received rain on Thursday morning.

Good rainfall was recorded in Manipal, Parkala, Atraadi and Hiriyadka, while moderate rainfall was reported in parts of Udupi, Kundapur, Byndoor, Brahmavar, Kaup, Hebri and Karkala taluks.

Udupi recorded 3 cm of rainfall on Thursday, which was reported as the highest rainfall recorded in Karnataka that day.

The rainfall provided some relief to parts of the coastal region, although the weather conditions are expected to remain variable until the next weather system becomes more active.

Low-pressure systems influencing weather

The current weather pattern is being influenced by a low-pressure area stretching from the southern Bay of Bengal towards Tamil Nadu and South Karnataka.
