Mangaluru: The Karnatakagovernment has revised its earlier decision on the administration of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). Initially, a circular issued on March 11 appointed the regional commissioner of the Mysuru region as the administrator, following the expiry of the MCC council’s tenure on February 28.
However, in a fresh circular dated March 20, the government assigned the role to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP. The revision aims to enhance administrative efficiency and address public grievances more effectively. The new appointment is effective from March 1.
The tenure of the BJP-led MCC council, which governed for five years, ended with Mayor Manoj Kumar chairing the final meeting on February 27. In the 2019 election, the BJP secured 44 out of 60 wards, while the Congress won 14, and SDPI claimed two.
Former corporators allege that the government is delaying fresh elections for the urban local body, leaving governance in the hands of an appointed administrator for the foreseeable future.
