Ullal: As sea erosion becomes increasingly severe in coastal regions due to heavy rains, Jayaram Raipura, Chief Executive Officer of the Karnataka Maritime Board, conducted an inspection of the affected areas on Friday. Raipura visited Mogaveerapatna, Battappady, and Uchila in Ullal taluk, where the impact of erosion has been particularly damaging.

During the visit, locals highlighted the urgent need for action, pointing out the collapse of the sea wall in Mogaveerapatna caused by high tidal waves. The community requested the reconstruction of this critical structure to prevent further damage. A similar plea was made by residents of the Seaground area, where a retention wall built under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) project has also failed.

Raipura was accompanied by several officials, including Chief Engineer of the Karnataka Maritime Board Prameeth B S and Assistant Executive Engineer Rajesh Kumar A. The presence of these officials underscored the seriousness of the situation and the commitment to addressing the community’s concerns.

The visit aimed to assess the damage firsthand and initiate plans for immediate and long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of sea erosion. As coastal areas continue to grapple with these challenges, the Karnataka Maritime Board’s response and subsequent actions will be crucial in safeguarding these vulnerable regions.
