Mangaluru: Karnataka-based physician and public health professional Dr Edmond Fernandes has been awarded the Doctor of Science (DSc) degree by S R University, Warangal, Telangana, in recognition of his scholarly contributions, social impact, research and policy work.

Dr Fernandes defended his work during the Viva Voce Examination before a distinguished expert committee constituted by S R University. His academic and professional work has focused on public health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, occupational health and safety, climate and disaster management, and geriatric research.

Research and initiatives have impacted millions

According to the details shared on the occasion, the work carried out by Dr Fernandes has impacted more than six million people across India.

His contributions include five books, more than 300 columns and blogs in national and international media, and over 25 peer-reviewed research publications. His work has also earned international recognition, including associations with the US Department of State Alumni programme, the Atlantic Council Senior Fellowship, and the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leader Class of 2026.

He has also served as a consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).

A significant part of Dr Fernandes’ work has focused on addressing malnutrition through initiatives undertaken in collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of Karnataka.
