Mangaluru: Kavoor police have apprehended a 44-year-old woman who had allegedly been absconding for around five years without appearing before the court in connection with a housemaid theft case registered in 2019.

The accused has been identified as Latha Maria (44), wife of late Lasrado Maria and a resident of Ananda Nagar, Akash Bhavan, Mangaluru.

Case registered in 2019

The case was registered at Kavoor police station as Crime No. 33/2019 under Section 381 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), relating to theft by a clerk or servant.

The case is pending before the Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Mangaluru, under LPC No. 05/2024.

According to police, Latha Maria had failed to appear before the court in connection with the case and remained unavailable for several years.

As she continued to remain absent from the proceedings, an arrest warrant was issued against her. She was subsequently declared an LPC accused.
