Mangaluru: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has submitted a detailed memorandum to Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada, highlighting pressing issues related to road connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. The memorandum addresses the deteriorating conditions of the Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats and emphasizes the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
In the memorandum, KCCI expressed its concerns over the severe deterioration of key arterial roads, particularly the Shiradi Ghat (NH 75) from B.C. Road to Sakleshpur and NH 175. The ongoing monsoon season has exacerbated the problem, rendering these roads unmotorable and disrupting vehicular movement since July 18, 2024.
The KCCI praised Capt. Brijesh Chowta for his proactive efforts in arranging visits from key officials, including Union Minister of State for Railways, Shri V. Somanna, and his discussions with the Minister of Roads Transport and Highways of India, Shri Nitin Gadkari. These efforts underscore the critical need to expedite the completion of the Mangaluru-Hassan (NH 75) four-laning project and the development of four-laning from Mani to Kushalnagar (NH 175).
KCCI President Ananthesh V. Prabhu highlighted the following key requests in the memorandum:
- Expediting NH 75 Four-Laning: Immediate action is needed to complete the four-laning work of NH 75 from B.C. Road to Sakleshpur to ensure robust connectivity.
- Restoration of Vehicular Movement: The urgent restoration of road conditions to facilitate 24/7 vehicular movement is crucial for both passenger and commercial traffic.
- Concretization of Critical Sections: The stretch between Addahole to Maranahalli requires total concretization to prevent annual disruptions caused by landslides.
- Permanent Solutions for Recurring Issues: Persistent road problems, particularly on the 10 km stretch prone to landslides, need permanent solutions, including bituminization and long-term concretization.
The KCCI further requested Capt. Brijesh Chowta’s personal intervention to ensure immediate relief and the release of emergency funds for road restoration and maintenance. Emphasizing the economic implications, the memorandum called for the prompt execution of these projects to support the region’s development and overall public welfare.
The memorandum concludes with a note of gratitude to Capt. Brijesh Chowta for his continued efforts and dedication to addressing the critical infrastructure needs of Dakshina Kannada.
