Mangaluru: KMC Hospital has announced a special public awareness programme titled “Caring for Those Who Cared for Us” to promote senior citizen health and emergency preparedness.

The awareness session will be held on June 13, 2026, from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm at KMC Hospital, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle, Mangaluru. The initiative is aimed at equipping family members, caregivers, and the general public with practical knowledge to identify medical emergencies in older adults and respond effectively during critical situations.

Focus on elderly health and emergency care

The programme will address a range of health concerns commonly affecting senior citizens, including falls, nervous breakdowns, cardiac arrest, stroke, and other medical emergencies that require immediate attention.

In addition to emergency situations, experts will discuss day-to-day ageing-related health challenges such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, medication safety, movement disorders, speech difficulties, and the prevention of bed sores.

Organisers said the initiative is designed to help caregivers better understand the health needs of elderly individuals and provide appropriate support at home and within the community.

Expert sessions and live demonstrations planned

Participants will have an opportunity to benefit from expert talks, live demonstrations, health assessments, medication guidance, and educational resources focused on improving elderly care.

The sessions will be led by Dr. Shivananda Pai, Consultant Neurologist, and Dr. Jeedhu Radhakrishnan, Cluster Head of Emergency Medicine.

Healthcare professionals will share practical insights into recognising warning signs of medical emergencies and taking timely action to improve outcomes for senior citizens.

Strengthening community preparedness

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Pramod Kunder, Cluster Director of KMC Hospital Mangaluru, said senior citizens have spent their lives caring for families and communities and deserve quality care and support in return.

He noted that the awareness programme aims to strengthen community preparedness, promote preventive healthcare, and empower caregivers with practical knowledge that can make a significant difference during emergencies.

Healthcare experts emphasise that prompt recognition of symptoms and timely medical intervention can substantially improve outcomes in conditions such as stroke, heart attack, falls, and medication-related complications.

Free registration for participants

The programme is open to the public and is expected to benefit family caregivers, healthcare workers, senior citizens, and anyone interested in understanding elderly care and emergency response.

Participation is free of cost; however, prior registration is mandatory.

Interested participants can register by contacting 91082 33978.

Through this initiative, KMC Hospital aims to enhance awareness about healthy ageing, improve caregiver preparedness, and contribute to better health outcomes for the growing elderly population in the region.
