Mangaluru: KMC Hospital at Dr B R Ambedkar Circle has launched a special breast health screening initiative to promote early detection and awareness of breast cancer. As part of this limited-period campaign from May 5 to May 16, 2026, bilateral mammogram screenings will be offered at a concessional price of ₹1,200.
The initiative aims to make essential diagnostic services more accessible to women and encourage timely screening.
Focus on early detection and awareness
The hospital has introduced this programme to motivate women, especially those above 40 years of age and individuals with a family history of breast cancer, to undergo regular screening.
Medical experts emphasise that early detection through mammograms significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates. However, many women delay screening due to cost concerns or lack of awareness.
Affordable screening with expert support
The screenings will be conducted using advanced radiology infrastructure at the hospital, supported by experienced women radiologists and trained technicians to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Women opting for the screening will also have access to expert consultation for further evaluation and medical guidance if required.
The screening timings are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, excluding Sundays, and prior appointment is advised.
Encouraging proactive healthcare
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Basila Ali, Consultant Breast Surgery, KMC Hospital Mangaluru, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis.
She noted that breast cancer, when detected early, is highly treatable. However, many patients approach hospitals at advanced stages due to delayed screening. She emphasised that regular mammograms can detect abnormalities even before symptoms appear and urged women to prioritise their breast health.
Supporting women’s health in the region
By offering mammograms at a reduced price, the hospital aims to remove financial barriers and encourage proactive health-seeking behaviour among women in the region.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to preventive healthcare and community awareness.
