Mangaluru: The 61st edition of the Konkani Natak Sabha’s (KNS) singing competition auditions were held on July 13 at Don Bosco Hall, beginning at 1:30 PM. The event opened with a prayer and the KNS anthem, followed by a welcome address by Fr Rocky D’Cunha OFM Cap, president of KNS.
The lamp-lighting ceremony was performed by Pamela Santos, Jerome Moras, Ivan D’Silva, and judges Joseph Theodore and Flavia Violet Mascarenhas.
Michael D’Souza, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist, served as the chief guest. Floyd D’Mello, KNS vice president, acknowledged Michael’s support in renovating Don Bosco Hall. D’Souza announced sponsorship for the entire singing competition for the next five years and the Kalakar Puraskar awards for ten years.
In his speech, Michael recalled participating in KNS competitions in the late 1980s and urged parents to involve children in Konkani cultural activities.
A total of 187 contestants took part across five categories, with 145 entries in solo, duet, and group formats.
