Mangaluru: The Konkani Natak Sabha® (KNS), Mangaluru, conducted the second round of its 62nd annual Konkani singing competition at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday, August 16, bringing together talented singers across age groups in a celebration of Konkani music and culture.

The programme began at 1 pm with the KNS anthem, followed by a welcome address by KNS vice president Floyd D’Mello Cascia.

Tribute paid to Konkani music legend

The programme opened with a condolence meeting for veteran Konkani singer and composer Sangeeth Samrat Henry D’Souza, who passed away in Mumbai on August 15.

Floyd D’Mello Cascia recalled Henry’s remarkable contribution to Konkani music, particularly his evergreen hit ‘Ye Ye Katrina’. He also highlighted Henry’s long association with KNS and his contribution of more than 200 Konkani songs through All India Radio and musical programmes in India and abroad.

KNS expressed condolences to Henry’s daughter Caroline D’Souza, family members, friends and admirers, remembering him as a voice of an era whose music will continue to live on.

133 singers compete for grand finale

The second round featured 109 entries involving 133 singers who qualified through preliminary rounds across 11 categories. Children, young singers, senior participants, duets, groups and married couples showcased their talent before the audience.

The performances were judged by singers Robin Sequeira, Zeena Pereira, Velita Lobo and Deepak Hanson Pinto.

The event was supported by the KNS managing committee, staff, volunteers and technical teams. The organisers also thanked donors, sponsors, media partners and well-wishers for their support.

Grand finale on September 13

The grand finale of the 62nd Konkani singing competition will be held on Sunday, September 13, from 9.30 am at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru.

The finalists will compete for the coveted prizes, promising another celebration of Konkani music, talent and community spirit.
