Mangaluru: A chain accident involving a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus and four cars occurred near Adyar Katte on Tuesday after the bus reportedly went out of control and crashed into vehicles ahead of it. While all four cars sustained damage—one of them being completely mangled—there were no reports of serious injuries, bringing relief to commuters and local residents.

According to preliminary information, the KSRTC bus was travelling along the busy stretch near Adyar Katte when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The bus first hit one car and then rammed into three other cars in quick succession, resulting in a chain collision. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicles, with debris scattered across the road.

Cars badly damaged, occupants escape unharmed

Despite the severity of the collision, the occupants of all four cars escaped without major injuries. Police sources said the drivers suffered minor bruises and shock but did not require hospitalisation. One of the cars bore the brunt of the impact and was left completely mangled, indicating the force with which the bus struck the vehicles.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred suddenly, leaving motorists little time to react. “We heard a loud sound and saw cars crashing into each other. It was frightening, but luckily no one was seriously hurt,” said a shopkeeper from the nearby area.

Traffic disrupted temporarily

The accident led to temporary traffic disruption on the busy road near Adyar Katte, which witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day. Vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road as police and local residents worked to clear the damaged cars and regulate traffic.

Traffic police personnel were deployed to divert vehicles and ease congestion. Normal traffic movement was restored after some time once the damaged vehicles were removed using cranes.

Police inspection and inquiry underway

Police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and conducted an on-site inspection. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Initial observations suggest that factors such as speeding, brake failure or sudden mechanical issues could have contributed to the KSRTC bus going out of control. However, officials said the precise cause would be ascertained only after a detailed technical inspection of the bus and statements from the driver and eyewitnesses.

Safety concerns raised

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, particularly involving heavy vehicles operating on busy urban roads. Local residents said accidents have become frequent in the Adyar Katte stretch due to high traffic volume and lack of adequate traffic-calming measures.

Commuters urged authorities to conduct regular vehicle fitness checks and ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such incidents in the future. They also called for better traffic management during peak hours to reduce the risk of collisions.

Conclusion

While the absence of serious injuries in the accident came as a relief, the chain collision near Adyar Katte underscores the need for heightened caution by drivers and stricter monitoring of public transport vehicles. Police said further details would emerge after completion of the investigation, and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
