Kodialbail: The historic Kudroli Sri Bhagavathi Temple in Kodialbail is set to host the grand Kaliatta Mahotsava in 2027, marking the return of the traditional religious festival after a gap of 75 years.
Mangaluru MLA Vedavyasa Kamath said devotees and members of the public should consider it a blessing to dedicate themselves to the arrangements for the rare religious event.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a committee formation programme held at the Kootakkala auditorium on Sunday in connection with the Kaliatta Mahotsava.
Rare religious festival after 75 years
Kamath said the Kaliatta Mahotsava would be conducted through a series of religious rituals and would provide devotees an opportunity to witness a rare traditional event at the historically renowned Bhagavathi Temple.
He appealed to devotees, community organisations and the public to extend their cooperation for the successful conduct of the festival.
The festival is expected to bring together representatives of Bhagavathi temples, village associations, youth organisations and women’s forums as preparations begin for the major religious event scheduled for 2027.
The committee formation programme marked an important step towards coordinating the various activities and responsibilities associated with the festival.
Traditional lamp lights inaugural programme
The programme began with the Achara Pattavaru of the Bhagavathi Temple inaugurating the event by lighting the traditional lamp.
Temple representatives, community leaders, social workers and members of various organisations attended the programme.
Among those present were Expert Education Institutions chairman Prof Narendra L Nayak, Lakumi team chief Kishore D Shetty, temple president Ganesh Kuntalpady, Muktasar Vishwanath Mankistand, Ullal Sri Chirumbha Bhagavathi Temple president Chidananda Gurikara Nandya, and Muktasar Suresh Bhatnagar.
Former corporator Leelavathi Prakash, Adka Sri Bhagavathi Temple secretary Jayantha V Bandyod, Uppala Bhagavathi Temple president Sukumar, Pattathur Bhagavathi Temple president Jayaram and Bharatiya Theeya Samaja Mangaluru Zone president Rakesh Bikarnakatte also attended.
Entrepreneur Ashok Kumar, former Bantwal taluk panchayat president Chandrahassa Karkera, Kodialbail Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti president Sadananda Shetty, Yuvajana Samiti president Jagadish Kadri and Mahila Samiti president Asha Chandramohan were among the other dignitaries present.
Committee formed for 2027 festival
The committee formation is aimed at bringing together representatives of various Bhagavathi temples and community organisations to coordinate preparations for the Kaliatta Mahotsava.
Muktasars Monappa Maji, Rajagopal, Ravindra K, Usha Prabhakar, Sarala Nagesh, Uday Kudupu and Lokesh Bolara were also present at the programme.
Members and office-bearers of various Bhagavathi temples, village associations, youth forums and women’s forums participated in the event.
Their involvement is expected to support coordination among the different organisations involved in preparations for the festival.
Organisers seek community participation
Speaking at the programme, Kamath highlighted the significance of the opportunity to participate in preparations for a religious event that is being revived after several decades.
He called upon devotees and members of the community to contribute to the successful organisation of the festival and extend their cooperation to the committee.
The Kaliatta Mahotsava at Kudroli Sri Bhagavathi Temple is scheduled to be held in 2027, 75 years after the previous such festival.
With the committee now being constituted, preparations are set to gather momentum in the coming months. The organisers are expected to coordinate religious rituals, community participation and other arrangements ahead of the festival.
Muktasar Sujan Das Kudupu welcomed the gathering, while Y B Sundar delivered the introductory address. General secretary Sudhir B Jappu assisted in the formation of the committee.
