Mangaluru: A house was severely damaged after it was struck by lightning during heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Dakshina Kannada district in the early hours of Monday.

The incident was reported at around 4 am at Aniladadda in Ajjibettu village of Bantwal taluk. The lightning struck the residence of Nagesh Kulal, causing extensive damage to the house.

Roof tiles, doors and windows damaged

The powerful lightning strike caused significant damage to various parts of the house. Roof tiles were shattered, while doors and window glass panes were also damaged in the impact.

The intensity of the strike reportedly left the family shaken. The incident occurred when heavy rain and thunderstorms were affecting several parts of Dakshina Kannada during the early morning hours.

Residents in the area were alerted by the loud thunder and the impact of the lightning strike.

Woman falls ill after incident

Nagesh Kulal’s wife, Kushala, reportedly fell ill following the lightning strike. She was subsequently admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

Details regarding the exact nature of her condition were not immediately available. However, the incident has caused concern among residents in the locality, particularly amid the spell of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the district.
