Moodabidri: The North sub-division crime detection team has arrested a 48-year-old man who had allegedly been absconding for 14 years without appearing before the court in connection with a vehicle loan fraud case involving Rs 10 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Srinivasa B. R., a resident of Baithadka in Jallur village of Sullia taluk. He was apprehended near Baithadka Junction on September 2 following a non-bailable warrant issued by the court.
Vehicle loan fraud case registered in 2012
According to the police, Srinivasa had availed a vehicle loan of Rs 10 lakh from Shriram Finance in 2009 to purchase a Telcon EX 70 vehicle.
However, he allegedly failed to repay the loan instalments as required. Police said he also failed to produce the vehicle for inspection, following which the finance company lodged a complaint.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered against Srinivasa at Moodabidri police station in 2012.
The case subsequently proceeded before the court, but the accused allegedly failed to appear for the hearings on a continuous basis.
Court issues non-bailable warrant
As Srinivasa repeatedly remained absent from the proceedings, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with CC No. 526/2025.
The warrant prompted the North sub-division crime detection team to intensify efforts to trace the accused.
Acting on the warrant, the police team located Srinivasa near Baithadka Junction in Jallur village on September 2 and took him into custody.
He was subsequently produced before the court for further proceedings.
Another warrant pending
Police said the accused is also facing another legal proceeding.
According to the police, a separate warrant related to a cheque bounce case is pending against Srinivasa.
The latest arrest comes as police teams continue to focus on tracing accused persons who have remained unavailable for court proceedings for extended periods.
The arrest also highlights the role of non-bailable warrants in ensuring that accused persons facing criminal or financial cases appear before the court and participate in the judicial process.
With Srinivasa now apprehended and produced before the court, further proceedings in the long-pending case are expected to continue.
