Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a man who had been evading capture for 12 years, after being implicated in multiple thefts.

Abdul Hameed (50), originally from Natekal near the government hospital and currently residing in Kolpe Mane, Konalu village, Kadaba taluk, was wanted in connection with thefts that occurred in 1999 and 2012 in Mangaluru East and Mangaluru North police station areas. Hameed had been involved in breaking into parked cars and stealing valuables. Despite being arrested and released on bail, he failed to appear for his trial, subsequently evading authorities.

Acting on intelligence, the CCB police managed to track down Abdul Hameed near Dharmasthala. He was arrested and handed over to the Mangaluru East police station for further legal action.

The operation was led by CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak, along with police inspector Rafiq K M, PSI Narendra, and CCB personnel. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal IPS has praised the team for their efforts in capturing the long-absent criminal.
