Beltangady: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly attempting to kill a 43-year-old man by deliberately ramming a Tata Sumo into his two-wheeler at Kurumani Cross.

The accused has been identified as Sharath (33), while the injured man is Balakrishna (43), a resident of Kalmane in Beltangady.

Accused allegedly followed victim

According to Balakrishna’s complaint, Sharath had allegedly threatened him a few months ago, warning that he would kill him by hitting him with a vehicle.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of July 30, when Balakrishna was returning home on his two-wheeler after completing his work.

The complaint alleges that Sharath followed him in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number KA-05-AD-6341.

When Balakrishna reached Kurumani Cross, the accused allegedly rammed the Tata Sumo into his two-wheeler with the intention of killing him.

Victim receives hospital treatment

Balakrishna sustained injuries in the collision and was admitted to a hospital, where he received inpatient treatment.

Based on his complaint, Police registered a case under Crime No. 52/2026 and Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

As part of the investigation, Police arrested Sharath on August 22 and produced him before the court. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

The investigation into the alleged attack is underway.
