Mangaluru city police apprehended Kalandar Shafi, 31, from Bajpe, for reportedly behaving inappropriately towards a woman on a city bus.
Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal stated that citizens detained Shafi, leading to his subsequent arrest by the authorities. After undergoing a medical examination, Shafi was presented before a court, which ordered him into judicial custody.
Addressing claims of Shafi being assaulted by the public, the commissioner mentioned that Shafi did not report any such incident. Earlier that day, a 19-year-old sales executive, traveling on a bus headed for Bajpe from State Bank for work, alleged that Shafi followed her, seated himself behind her, and engaged in misconduct.
A case has been filed at Mangaluru South police station in connection with the incident.
