Moodbidri: The Mulki police arrested a man for allegedly selling ganja near the railway station road at Kilpadi village under the Mulki police station limits on Thursday, June 25.
The accused has been identified as Abbas (50), a resident of Kotekar in Mangaluru. Police officials said the arrest was made during a special operation conducted in the area based on credible information regarding the illegal sale of narcotic substances.
Ganja worth Rs 2 lakh seized
During the operation, the police seized 4 kg of ganja from the possession of the accused. The contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 2 lakh in the illegal market.
According to the police, the accused was allegedly involved in selling the narcotic substance in and around the area. Following the seizure, the police took him into custody and confiscated the ganja as part of the investigation.
Officials said the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking and sale of narcotic substances in the coastal region.
Case registered under NDPS Act
A case has been registered against the accused at the Mulki Police Station under Crime No. 45/2026.
The accused has been booked under Sections 8(c) and 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for possession and alleged sale of ganja.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and whether the accused had any links to a larger drug distribution network operating in the region.
Joint operation by police teams
The successful raid was carried out jointly by a team led by the Panambur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) along with personnel from the Mulki police station.
Officials stated that strict action will continue against individuals involved in the illegal trade and distribution of narcotic substances. They also appealed to the public to share information regarding drug-related activities to help the police in their anti-narcotics drive.
The arrest and seizure are being viewed as another significant step in the ongoing efforts of the district police to curb the menace of drug trafficking and ensure public safety in the region.
