Mangaluru: A man against whom as many as 35 arrest warrants had been issued for repeatedly failing to appear before a court was arrested at Mangaluru International Airport upon his arrival from abroad.

According to police sources, the accused had been evading legal proceedings for a prolonged period, despite multiple summons and warrants issued by the court. His continued absence had led authorities to intensify efforts to trace his whereabouts.

Arrest following immigration alert

The arrest was made when the accused landed at the airport and was intercepted by authorities during routine immigration checks. Officials, acting on alerts related to pending cases and warrants, detained him immediately after confirming his identity.

The coordinated action between immigration authorities and local police ensured that the accused could not evade arrest any further.

Long-standing evasion of court proceedings

Police officials stated that the accused had failed to appear before the court on multiple occasions, leading to the issuance of 35 warrants over time. Such repeated non-compliance is considered a serious offence, as it obstructs the judicial process.

Authorities suspect that the accused had been staying abroad for a considerable period, possibly to avoid legal action. However, his return to India ultimately led to his arrest.

Legal action to follow

Following his detention, the accused was handed over to the jurisdictional police for further legal procedures. He is expected to be produced before the concerned court, where further action will be decided based on the pending cases.

Officials emphasised that strict action will be taken against individuals attempting to evade court proceedings, and similar monitoring mechanisms are in place at airports to track such offenders.

Conclusion

The arrest highlights the effectiveness of coordinated surveillance and enforcement mechanisms in tracking individuals evading the law. Authorities reiterated that absconding accused cannot escape legal accountability indefinitely, as systems are in place to ensure their eventual arrest.
