Mangaluru: Punjalakatte police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly robbing his 82-year-old grandmother of two gold bangles worth around Rs 5 lakh at Uddada Gudde in Tenka Kajekaru, Bantwal. Police have also recovered the jewellery from his possession.
According to a complaint filed by Sadiq, his mother Avvamma was alone at home on August 14 when an unidentified man entered the house with his face covered with a cloth. The intruder allegedly forcibly pulled two gold bangles from her hands and fled.
The bangles, weighing around 40 grams and valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, were allegedly snatched with such force that Avvamma suffered bleeding injuries to her hands.
Police trace accused within two days
Based on Sadiq’s complaint, Punjalakatte police registered a case under Crime No. 70/2026 under Section 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
During the investigation, police arrested Shabbir, 33, a resident of Tenka Kajekaru, on August 16. Police said Shabbir is the grandson of the elderly victim.
The two gold bangles were recovered from his possession. Police said further questioning will be conducted and the accused will be produced before the competent court.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Belthangady Deputy Superintendent of Police Rohini C K.
Belthangady Rural Circle Inspector Ravi B S, Punjalakatte Police Station PSI Rajesh K V and police personnel including ASI Bennichchan, Praveen Murugoli, Rajesh, Vijay Kumar, Rahul Rao, Nagaraj, Rajith, Basavaraj and Satish participated in the operation.
District technical wing personnel Divakar and Sampath also assisted the investigation.
