Mangaluru: The Vittal police have detained a man following an alleged incident of moral policing involving a minor.

The accused, identified as Padmaraj, hails from Enmakaje in Manjeshwar, police officials confirmed. The event unfolded on Tuesday evening at the Vitla private bus stand, where the victim’s younger brother, a minor, was seen conversing with his female schoolmate.

Padmaraj reportedly approached the pair, objected to the boy interacting with a Hindu girl, and allegedly issued life threats before leaving the location. The situation was brought to the attention of authorities by the boy’s family.

A case has been registered at the Vitla Police Station under Sections 126(2), 352, 351(3), and 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police stated that an investigation is underway, and further legal steps will follow after questioning the accused.

Law enforcement officials reiterated their stance against such vigilantism, warning that moral policing will not be tolerated and will be addressed under appropriate legal frameworks.
