Mangaluru: In a move to curb the spread of inflammatory content online, Mangaluru police have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly sharing a video on social media that incited communal hatred. The accused has been identified as Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of Badagabellur.
According to police sources, the video in question was found to contain content that could disturb communal harmony and provoke tensions among communities. Acting on this, authorities initiated an investigation and tracked down the individual responsible for circulating the material.
Arrest made in Bengaluru
The accused was apprehended by Kankanady police in Bengaluru on March 22 following a targeted operation. Officials said that the arrest was carried out after gathering sufficient digital evidence linking him to the circulation of the video.
After being taken into custody, Mohammed Rafiq was brought to Mangaluru and produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.
Court remands accused to custody
The court, after hearing the case, remanded the accused to judicial custody for a period of 15 days. Police officials stated that the remand will allow investigators to further examine the circumstances surrounding the case, including the origin and intent behind the video.
