A routine investigation into a stone-pelting incident on a private bus has exploded into controversy after Mangaluru police uncovered over 50 explicit videos on the seized mobile phone of Samith Raj Dharegudde, a local activist and district coordinator of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV).

Samith Raj had been detained by Moodbidri police for allegedly throwing stones at the bus, which had been involved in an accident. As part of the inquiry, officers seized his phone and conducted a court-authorized forensic examination.

According to police sources, investigators were stunned to discover numerous pornographic clips, including one allegedly featuring a prominent coastal politician.

An FIR has now been registered at Moodbidri police station in connection with the material recovered. Authorities are carrying out detailed verification and technical analysis to trace the origins of the videos, confirm authenticity, and assess whether they were stored or shared with malicious intent.

The revelations have triggered a political storm in the coastal belt, with leaders demanding transparency and accountability. Police officials say the probe will also examine whether the content poses security risks or was being used for blackmail.

The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be based on forensic findings and legal advice.
