Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) celebrated a transformative 2024, marked by growth, innovation, and sustainability strides, officials announced Saturday.

The airport achieved an all-time high in passenger volume for October, welcoming 202,892 travelers—138,902 domestic and 63,990 international. This accomplishment cements MIA’s role as a crucial regional aviation link.

Infrastructure progress earned the airport the Build India Infra Award 2024 for innovation. The standout achievement was the 2,450-meter runway recarpeting, completed in an impressive 75 days using a flexible asphalt overlay on a rigid concrete base, enhancing safety and operational capacity.

MIA also prioritized eco-friendly practices, adopting energy-efficient lighting and advanced waste management systems to reduce its carbon footprint.

Travel connectivity was expanded as Air India Express introduced Boeing 737-8 flights connecting Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mangaluru. IndiGo added more direct flights to Chennai, offering passengers increased options.

Recognized at Wings India 2024, MIA won the “Best Airport under 5 Million Passengers” award, credited to a 14.17% rise in passenger numbers, reaching 1,927,466 in 2023. Former Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia presented this honor.

The airport’s commitment to safety was lauded with the Platinum Award at the Apex India Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2023, highlighting zero worksite incidents.

Passenger experience improved through expanded food and retail services and the launch of the MIA Super App (Adani One) for efficient grievance redressal.

MIA’s vision for innovation, safety, and convenience continues to elevate its status as a premier aviation hub.
