Mangaluru: Despite Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) sanctioning thousands of crores for urban development, not a single rupee was earmarked for Bajal ward. Before the assembly elections, foundation stones were laid at 13 sites, yet no actual work has begun even after a year, stated Santhosh Bajal, district secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Dakshina Kannada.
Addressing a protest at Bajal Jalligudde Cross on Monday, Santhosh demanded clarity on the delayed projects. The demonstration, organized by the DYFI Bajal Jalligudde unit, highlighted crucial civic issues, including road widening, concrete paving, drainage repairs, and connectivity from Jayanagar to Pakkaladka.
Santhosh criticized the political gimmicks, alleging that overnight cutouts appeared after DYFI initiated inquiries. He dismissed claims of a ₹17 crore allocation, stating that citizens would not fall for deceptive tactics. He also accused the local corporator and MLA of utterly disregarding Bajal’s infrastructural needs.
CITU district general secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal warned that the people’s patience was running thin and that electoral consequences awaited those indulging in political theatrics. Former corporator Jayanti B Shetty also lent support.
A protest march from Jayanagar Jalligudde to Jalligudde Cross preceded the demonstration. MCC executive engineer Naresh Shenoy acknowledged the grievances, accepted the memorandum, and assured a response. DYFI vowed to persist until tangible action is taken.
