A bus owner in Mangaluru, Lester Kateel, recently renamed his vehicle from ‘Israel Travels’ to ‘Jerusalem’ following public backlash on social media. Kateel, who has worked in Israel for over a decade, named the bus after the country, but a section of netizens, reacting to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, began sharing images of the bus and demanded legal action.
To avoid unnecessary controversy, Kateel voluntarily changed the name, despite no pressure from authorities. He expressed surprise over the uproar, saying, “I have no idea why people have issues with ‘Israel Travels.’”
Some critics argued that if individuals can face legal action for social media posts supporting Palestine, similar measures should apply to the bus naming incident.
