Mangaluru: In the wake of recent killings along Dakshina Kannada’s coast, several community-based groups have come forward with a proposal to host a multi-faith harmony meet. Their goal is to foster unity and rebuild trust among different communities.
CPI(M) district secretary Muneer Katipalla emphasized that strength lies not in displays of dominance but in collective patience and mutual respect. “Only secular values and peaceful coexistence can mend these deep societal rifts. We must safeguard the interests of all, including minority communities. Without that, lasting peace will remain elusive,” he said.
Conveying similar sentiments, KPCC general secretary Padmaraj R Poojary highlighted the need for inclusive dialogue. “Restoring peace requires conversations that transcend religion and politics. I’m committed to engaging with everyone,” he affirmed.
Adding a spiritual dimension, religious scholar SB Darimi suggested that revered Hindu seers, Islamic clerics, and Christian priests unite to host a district-level harmony gathering in Mangaluru.
District-in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, during his recent visit, also pledged official support. “We will convene a peace session involving all concerned groups to prevent further unrest. Rebuilding public confidence is crucial, and everyone’s participation is key,” he noted, urging citizens to stand together for the greater good.
With civil society, religious leaders, and government officials rallying for unity, Mangaluru now stands at a turning point—between deeper division or renewed cohesion.
