Mangaluru: Traditional Mosaru Gudi celebrations were held at two locations in Shaktinagar on Sunday, September 6, bringing devotees and local residents together for religious rituals, processions and cultural activities.
The celebrations reflected the community’s continued observance of Krishna Janmashtami traditions, with devotees participating in prayers, bhajans and a traditional procession. The festivities also provided an opportunity for younger members of the community to take part in and learn about local customs.
Celebrations at Sri Gopalakrishna Temple
At the Sri Gopalakrishna Temple in Shaktinagar, the programme began with a pooja and other traditional rituals.
The religious proceedings were followed by the Mosaru Gudi celebration, which saw active participation from devotees and residents of the locality. Members of the Sri Nagabana Raktheshwari Bhajana Mandali from Sanjayanagar, including children, participated in the programme and rendered bhajans.
The involvement of children and younger participants added a community-oriented dimension to the celebrations, highlighting the role of local cultural organisations in keeping traditional practices alive.
Procession marks second celebration
Another Mosaru Gudi celebration was organised by the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Samiti in Shaktinagar.
The procession began near the Sri Krishna Mandira and proceeded towards Muttappa Gudi, where it concluded. A large number of devotees and residents participated in the procession and the traditional festivities.
The gathering created a festive atmosphere in the locality, with residents coming together to observe the occasion and participate in the religious and cultural activities.
46-year-old tradition continues
The Sri Krishna Janmashtami Samiti has been organising the Mosaru Gudi celebration in Shaktinagar for the past 46 years.
The long-running tradition has become an annual community event, bringing residents together while preserving customs associated with Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.
