The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is set to forward a proposal submitted by the Mangaluru Club to develop a park on vacant land at Mahakalipadpu to the standing committee on town planning. Conditional approval will be granted, requiring the proponent to adhere to the urban local body’s guidelines. MCC Chief Whip Premanand Shetty stated that the city corporation retains the authority to revoke approval if guidelines are not followed.
The Mangaluru Club, situated near Mahakalipadpu in Jeppu ward, submitted the proposal in February to develop a park in a public space in front of their premises. The club will cover all costs associated with developing the park on the proposed government land. They must ensure that the development does not affect public or traffic movement on the nearly 15 cents of land.
The MCC’s standing committee on town planning will deliberate on the proposal before making a final decision. Even after approval, the MCC can revise its decision, and the land must be returned upon the urban local body’s demand. “They may start developing and beautifying the park once the standing committee approves the proposal,” Shetty added.
