Mangaluru: The Additional District & Sessions Court-FTSC-II (Pocso) has sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his minor daughter. Judge Maanu KS convicted the man for the crime committed on April 13, 2020. Special Public Prosecutor K. Badrinath Nairy reported that the accused had non-consensual physical relations with the girl twice, leading to her pregnancy and the birth of a baby girl.

Following a complaint from the girl, Belthangady police registered a case. The court examined 13 witnesses and recorded 29 pieces of evidence during the hearing. A DNA report confirmed that the accused was the father of the survivor’s child.

After evaluating the evidence and testimonies, the court found the accused guilty on August 2. In addition to the 20-year sentence, the court imposed a Rs 50,000 penalty under Section 376(2)(n) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Pocso Act, which will be awarded to the survivor.

The court also ruled that the survivor is entitled to Rs 1.5 lakh as victim compensation, and Rs 3 lakh will be provided to the child through the District Legal Services Authority, as stated by Nairy.

This verdict emphasizes the court’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence and holding perpetrators accountable.
