Dinesh Kumar BP, DCP (crime and traffic) of Mangaluru, announced that action will be taken against station officers who hesitate to register complaints or FIRs, or who neglect cases. He urged the public to submit written complaints to the police commissioner’s office if local police delay filing an FIR. Speaking at the SC/ST grievances redressal meeting, DCP Kumar emphasized that cases involving criminal elements must be registered, even in civil matters, and criticized police mediation over FIR registration.

Community members raised concerns about stations not filing cases. Sadashiva Urvastore highlighted harassment issues during the Aati month, where Dalits are forced to dress up as ‘Aati Kalenja’ and collect money. He suggested requiring police permission for such performances. DCP Kumar encouraged filing specific harassment complaints.

Concerns about the Mulki police station’s negligence and misconduct were voiced, prompting ACP Manoj Kumar to assure an investigation. DCP Kumar directed officers to conduct grievance meetings at the colony level, involving various departments for effectiveness, citing a successful meeting in Ullal as an example.

Sheena and others raised the issue of personnel shortages at the Moodbidri station and suggested conducting SC/ST grievance meetings at the gram panchayat level. Jagadeesh Pandeshwar and Ashok Konchadi reported public disturbances and illegal activities near student facilities and the Mary Hill helipad, respectively.
