Mangaluru: The blessing and inauguration of the new division of Father Muller Research Centre (FMRC) was held on February 15 at the third floor of A Block, Father Muller Medical College (FMMC).
The event was officiated by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of FMCI, alongside director-designate Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo. The ceremony began with prayers and blessings, followed by an inspiring message on perseverance and gratitude, emphasizing the potential for future growth of FMRC with adequate time and financial backing.
A distinguished guest at the event was Dr B Sanjeev Rai, former dean of FMMC and chief of research at FMRC. His invaluable contributions to research and academics played a pivotal role in the centre’s establishment in 2006, which has now evolved into a globally recognized research hub.
The new division boasts cutting-edge laboratory facilities, including molecular biology, nanoscience, and analytical chemistry. Dr Shivashankar A R, head of biochemistry at FMRC, detailed the advanced equipment available, such as ELISA, spectrometry, a specialized anaerobic microbiology lab, and MALDI-TOF. Future enhancements in proteomics and trace element analysis will position FMRC as a regional reference lab.
Special appreciation was extended to Fr Ajith B Menezes, administrator of FMMC, FMCOP, and FMCOAHS, for his visionary leadership in ensuring timely completion of the project.
The event featured a welcome speech by Dr Ramesh Bhat, a vote of thanks by Dr Beena Antony, and was hosted by Rhea Pinto, junior research fellow. The gathering included faculty, management, and advisory members, all wishing FMRC continued success.
