The Mangaluru Forest Mobile Squad, guided by Deputy Forest Conservator Anthony Mariappa and led by Range Forest Officer Prashanth Kumar Pai, made a significant seizure of illegally transported timber. Acting on a tip-off, the squad intercepted a vehicle carrying Acacia and Mangium timber valued at Rs 5.5 lakh, intended for illegal transport to Kerala.

Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the vehicle lacked the necessary documentation and permits for transporting the timber, making the transport illegal under forest conservation laws. The quick and decisive action by the Forest Mobile Squad resulted in the confiscation of the timber and the vehicle, ensuring the preservation of these valuable forest resources.

Deputy Forest Conservator Anthony Mariappa commended the efforts of the team, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting forest resources. “Illegal timber trade not only depletes our forests but also impacts the environment and local ecosystems. Our team is dedicated to curbing such activities and bringing offenders to justice,” he stated.

Range Forest Officer Prashanth Kumar Pai highlighted the coordinated efforts and meticulous planning that led to the successful operation. “This seizure is a testament to our commitment to forest conservation and the enforcement of laws protecting our natural resources,” he added.

A case has been registered against the individuals involved in the illegal transport, and further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend others connected to this operation. The Mangaluru Forest Mobile Squad continues to be vigilant and proactive in their efforts to combat illegal activities and preserve the region’s forest wealth.
