The first-ever Racefor7 event in Mangaluru, organized by the Organization for Rare Diseases India (ORDI) in collaboration with Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and the Arunya Foundation, concluded successfully last Sunday at the Yendurance Sports Zone. The event saw an impressive turnout with over 400 participants, including doctors, police personnel, media representatives, medical professionals, students, and faculty members from across Mangaluru.

The race was flagged off by Geetha Kulkarni, ACP CCB, Mangaluru City Police, Dr. Ashwini S Shetty, Director of the Directorate of Extension and Outreach Activities at Yenepoya University, along with other prominent figures. The participants eagerly engaged in the 7K run, with some opting for the extended 10K challenge. Mangaluru City Traffic Police ensured the safety of the event by providing a zero-traffic lane for the runners.

The event began with an energizing Zumba session led by Namratha Shekar, Zumba Coach at Zeus Fitness Club, followed by the race flag-off at 6:30 AM. Participants were awarded finisher medals by Srinivasa Pejathaya, Secretary of Arunya Foundation, and Nayana Shetty, Race Director, upon completing the race.

Key figures from the medical community, such as Dr. Santosh Rai and Dr. Shwetha Kamath, also participated in the event. Dr. Anupama Rao and Dr. Sharath Balemane, both faculty members from Yenepoya University, addressed the crowd on the importance of rare disease awareness, early diagnosis, and patient care.

The event received valuable support from the Tulunad Bikers, who escorted the runners along the route, and from NSS volunteers from Yenepoya University, who ensured smooth event operations.

Racefor7 symbolizes the 7,000 rare diseases that affect over 70 million people in India, and this successful debut in Mangaluru highlights the city’s dedication to supporting rare disease patients and advocating for improved policies and funding.
