Dispute linked to ₹2 crore land investment

Police said the accused, Mohammed Shareef, had reportedly invested nearly ₹2 crore in property transactions involving land located in Surathkal Kana and Vamanjoor.

According to the investigation, the land deal involved Shareef, his father Mohammed Iqbal and the complainant Mohan Das Shetty. Authorities said that Shareef believed he had been cheated in the transaction and was upset over the alleged financial loss.

Officials stated that the accused had been harbouring resentment against the complainant for some time. The dispute between the parties had reportedly escalated in recent weeks, eventually resulting in a confrontation.

Argument and phone snatching incident

The incident reportedly began on Tuesday at around 11.00 am when Shareef confronted Shetty on Arya Samaj Road in Mangaluru.

According to the complaint filed with the police, the two men got into an argument regarding the property dealings. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly snatched Shetty’s mobile phone.

After the argument, the complainant left the location and continued travelling on his two-wheeler. However, police said the accused allegedly followed him in his car shortly afterwards.

Car allegedly rammed into two-wheeler

Police stated that while Shetty was riding his two-wheeler, the accused allegedly drove his car at high speed and deliberately rammed the vehicle from behind.

Investigators believe the act was intentional and could have resulted in serious injury or death. The collision caused the complainant to lose control of the two-wheeler and fall.

Although the victim survived the incident, police said the nature of the act led them to treat the case as an attempt to murder.

Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

Following the complaint, Mangaluru East Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

The accused has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Sections 109, 281, 352, 351 and 304(2).

Police teams gathered evidence from the scene and recorded statements from witnesses as part of the preliminary investigation.

Accused arrested, to be produced before court

Based on the complaint and initial findings, police arrested Mohammed Shareef in connection with the case.

Officials confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court as part of further legal proceedings. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional details regarding the financial dispute and circumstances of the incident may emerge.

Authorities have reiterated that disputes related to financial dealings and property transactions should be resolved through legal channels rather than confrontation.

Conclusion

The incident has once again highlighted how financial disagreements, particularly those involving property investments, can escalate into serious criminal acts if not handled properly. Police officials have urged citizens to seek lawful resolution mechanisms and report threats or disputes early to prevent such violent outcomes.
