A Mangaluru resident has fallen victim to an online trading scam, losing over ₹1.25 crore after being misled by a message received on WhatsApp. The individual reported the incident to the Mangaluru South Police Station, prompting an investigation.
On August 16, the victim received a WhatsApp message suggesting that a particular online trading scheme would yield significant returns. Trusting the message, he joined a related WhatsApp group, where he was further encouraged to click on a link shared by the group admin. This led him to make several payments starting September 1.
However, when he attempted to withdraw his funds, he found himself unable to do so. After discussing the situation with family and friends, he realized he had been scammed. According to the victim’s complaint, between September 1 and October 7, he was defrauded of ₹1,25,67,726 under the pretense of a fake online trading scheme.
