John, a mason from Dakshina Kannada, is embarking on a new journey to seek better opportunities in Israel, despite the ongoing conflict. Determined to pursue his career and fulfill his aspirations, John remarked, “The offer is so tempting that one cannot refuse, even though I am aware that the country is facing a war-like situation.” He, along with 34 other job seekers, departed from Mumbai International Airport on Thursday.

Having worked in construction for several years, John is optimistic about the new avenues now open in Israel. Previously known for offering caretaker jobs for the elderly, Israel is now providing opportunities in construction, baking, agriculture, hospitality, and other industries due to the ongoing war against Palestine. The suspension of work permits for Palestinians has created job openings for Indian workers, with current offers available only for male candidates.

Lancy Mascarenhas of 4 Corners Manpower Agency, an approved Israeli recruitment agency, highlighted the demand for thousands of workers in fields like steel fabrication, masonry, tile fitting, carpentry, electrical work, AC mechanics, plumbing, and heavy machinery operation. Many applicants are young men aged 20-30, including Gulf returnees and locals with extensive experience.

The job offer includes a salary package starting from 1.3 lakh per month (5,600 Shekels), with experienced professionals earning up to 2 lakh per month. Benefits include free accommodation, with only food expenses to be borne by the candidates. Hourly wages range from 35-45 Shekels, with extra pay for overtime on weekends. Food expenses are approximately Rs 20,000 per month, allowing for substantial savings.

Wilson Fernandes of the Fernandes Group advises job seekers to be wary of fake recruitment agencies and ensure they approach only those approved by the Israeli government to avoid scams. With two decades of recruitment experience for Israel, Fernandes anticipates more job opportunities for Indians in the near future.
