Mangaluru Mayor Manoj Kumar has assured residents that the city is unlikely to face a water crisis during the peak summer months, citing the adequate water storage at the Thumbe vented dam, which serves as a primary water source for the region. During a Ganga Puja ceremony at the dam on Tuesday, the mayor noted that the water inflow remained steady, with storage levels consistently maintained at six meters. The dam currently supplies approximately 160 MLD of water to Mangaluru, Ullal, Mulki, and nearby villages.

Kumar also mentioned that rain is expected in May, which will further help replenish the dam’s reserves. While the city experienced water rationing in previous years, he assured that the situation for the upcoming summer looks stable.

On the ongoing Jalasiri project, which aims to provide 24×7 water supply across all wards, Kumar updated that the construction of 22 overhead tanks is underway, alongside the development of a water treatment plant at Adyar. Once completed, these initiatives will ensure round-the-clock water access for the city’s residents.

In response to concerns about the impending heatwave, Leader of Opposition Anil Kumar urged the public to stay cautious. He also stressed that officials must closely monitor water levels and take proactive measures. MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik echoed the call for vigilant water usage, particularly in the next three months, which will be critical as peak summer approaches. “Water is a limited resource, and we must use it wisely,” he emphasized.
