Dakshina Kannada MP, Capt Brijesh Chowta, recently met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to submit a memorandum urging the initiation of key defence-related facilities in the district. His proposal included establishing a Sainik School and setting up a military base in Mangaluru.

Capt Chowta highlighted the potential of a Sainik School to motivate local youth to pursue careers in the armed forces. He emphasized that Dakshina Kannada, known for its premier educational institutions, could provide an ideal academic environment for such an institution. The memorandum also stressed the need for a military base to strengthen national security while fostering pride and patriotism among residents.

During the discussion, Capt Chowta proposed that the Defence Ministry should undertake projects in Mangaluru to honor prominent figures like former Defence Minister George Fernandes and national martyrs, including Capt Pranjal and Commander George Martis, who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Seeking advice from Rajnath Singh, Capt Chowta explored various opportunities for defence-related initiatives that could benefit the district. As a token of cultural pride, he presented the minister with an artwork featuring Kambala, a traditional buffalo race symbolizing the coastal region’s heritage.

These developments reflect the MP’s commitment to combining national security interests with the district’s cultural and educational strengths.
