Mangaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has instructed the Dakshina Kannada district administration to ensure zero loss of life due to rain-related incidents. Emphasising the urgency of the situation, he urged close coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to swiftly address areas hit by landslides.

With coastal Karnataka experiencing intense rainfall over the past 48 hours, Rao, who also serves as the district-in-charge minister, stressed the importance of taking all preventive steps. He confirmed having held phone discussions with Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ravichandra Naik regarding the region’s preparedness.

“I’ve asked officials to remain on-site, monitor vulnerable zones closely, and ensure public safety,” he stated. He also insisted that authorities stay in constant touch with NHAI, especially to restore disrupted road links due to soil erosion and slides.

Rao further directed that residents in flood-prone and waterlogged zones be immediately shifted to safe shelters. Families living in homes at risk of collapse must be evacuated without delay. Rescue equipment should be kept ready, and all emergency protocols must be active.

He underscored that control rooms should function round the clock and respond swiftly to complaints related to rain damage. Rao issued a strong warning that any lapses in disaster response or management would be dealt with sternly.
