Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City police have arrested another individual, Aboobakar, in connection with the stabbing of two BJP workers at Boliyar in the Konaje police station limits on June 9. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to six. The two injured BJP workers are out of danger and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal reported that 14 other suspects involved in the incident are still at large. The prime accused, a known rowdy-sheeter, remains on the run. The weapon used in the stabbing has been recovered, and three special teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining suspects as quickly as possible.
Commissioner Agrawal noted that the altercation was provoked by slogans raised by BJP workers during a procession celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. The slogans, which referred to Muslims as Pakistanis, instigated the group leading to the stabbing incident. The police have booked cases against both the attackers and those who raised the provocative slogans.
Notices have been served to the absconding suspects, and police personnel had previously intervened to prevent the procession from being carried out a second time.
