Mangaluru: Mangaluru South police have registered a case against a first division assistant attached to the Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s Office for allegedly submitting duplicate medical bills to claim reimbursements amounting to ₹4.8 lakh.

According to the police, the official allegedly submitted fraudulent medical reimbursement claims relating to the treatment of her mother and husband.

Discrepancies noticed during verification

The alleged irregularities came to light during the verification of the reimbursement documents. The account superintendent reportedly noticed discrepancies in the medical bills and signatures and brought the matter to the attention of senior officials.

Following an internal review, a complaint was filed with the Mangaluru South police, leading to the registration of a case against the official.

Investigation underway

Police said the alleged claims involved medical expenses relating to the official’s family members. The exact nature of the discrepancies and the circumstances under which the bills were submitted are being examined as part of the investigation.

The police are expected to verify the medical documents, reimbursement records and other relevant evidence as they proceed with the case.
