On July 3, the Mangaluru city police, in collaboration with the traffic police, filed 96 cases against buses using high-beam lights at Lalbagh, Mangaluru. This action is part of two special drives initiated by the police to address these issues throughout July. During the drive, many buses were inspected, and shrill horns were seized.
Alok Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety), Karnataka, stated, “While we cannot definitively say whether high-beam lights are causing accidents, it is a possibility as it increases the risk of crashes, especially at night.” The Karnataka state police will conduct a special drive against high-beam lights and glaring vehicle headlights, booking drivers under Section 177 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.
