Mangaluru: As speculation and misinformation swirl around the mob lynching of Ashraf in Kudupu and the murder of Suhas Shetty in Kinnipadavu, Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy firmly stated that all arrests made were based on scientific and verifiable evidence.

Addressing the media, the Commissioner released video footage, audio clips, images, and screenshots of provocative online posts connected to the incidents. He emphasized that over 30 witness statements had been recorded in the Ashraf case and that the investigation was on the right track.

A crucial breakthrough came through the forensic analysis of a photograph showing Ashraf’s body surrounded by people. Investigators matched visible footwear in the image with that of individuals at the scene, helping identify and arrest multiple suspects. Over 120 people were present during the assault, which took place during a local cricket match.

“We are committed to protecting Mangaluru’s citizens and will not let misinformation threaten peace. Investigations are unbiased and rooted in evidence,” Reddy said. Acknowledging delays, he admitted that a murder case should have been filed sooner and confirmed disciplinary action is being initiated against responsible officers.

Addressing rumors implicating a former corporator’s husband, Reddy clarified that while he was present, no evidence linked him to any violent act or incitement.

Regarding Suhas Shetty’s murder, now under the NIA’s jurisdiction, Reddy released related video clips and confirmed all persons at the scene, including burqa-clad women, had been questioned.

On the Special Action Force (SAF), he explained that training is ongoing, with some units heading to Bengaluru soon. He stressed that SAF operates under standard legal authority like all police units.
